Tennessee Lady Vols basketball changed forever in 1974 when they hired Pat Summitt to become their head coach. From '74 until she retired in 2012 Coach Summitt won 8 National Championships and went to 18 Final Fours. Winning her first in 1987 and her last in 2008 she became the standard in which women's college basketball excellence was measured.
During her tenure as Lady Vols head coach she also recruited and coached some of the best players in the history of the women's game. Names like Holdsclaw, Catchings, and Parker now hang in the rafters alongside the National Championship banners in Thompson-Boling Arena.
